چکیده

Ranjan et al. @Phys. Rev. B 65, 060102~R! ~2002!# have recently presented results of a powder neutrondiffraction study of the high-temperature monoclinic (FM ) to low-temperature monoclinic (FM ) phase transition in Pb(Ti12xZrx)O3 discovered by Ragini et al. @Phys. Rev. B 64, 054101 ~2001!#. They attribute the presence of superlattice reflections in the diffraction data to tilting of oxygen octahedra and propose a monoclinic space group Pc for the FM LT phase. It is shown that for the model proposed by Ranjan et al., the correct space group of the FM LT phase should be Cc . This has also been corroborated by a group-theoretical approach to the problem. A different set of refined structural parameters for the Cc space group obtained from the Rietveld analysis of the powder neutron-diffraction data of Ranjan et al. is also presented.

Polar lattice vibrations and phase transition dynamics in Pb(Zr1-xTix)O3

Infrared (IR) reflectivity spectra of nominally pure Pb(Zr1-xTix)O3 ceramics with different Ti/Zr concentration (x = 0.42–0.58) were measured and evaluated, along with the time-domain terahertz transmittance spectra in the temperature range 10 K–900 K. The temperature dependence of the low-frequency vibrations, related to Pb atoms, was analyzed in terms of two overdamped modes—a soft mode and a...

A new type of antiferrodistortive structure in a double perovskite with Pb.

We have found a new structural transition in Pb(2)MnReO(6) at 410 K. Above this temperature, Pb(2)MnReO(6) is cubic with disordered and dynamic atomic displacements manifested in the large thermal parameters of Pb and O atoms. Below 410 K, the antiferrodistortive shift of 2/3 of Pb(2+) cations away from the high-symmetry cubic site produces a new type of monoclinic cell. The unit cell expands a...

Stability of ferroic phases in the highly piezoelectric Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3 ceramics.

The morphotropic phase boundary in the phase diagram of the technologically important Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3 (PZT) ceramics has been traditionally believed to separate ferroelectric tetragonal and rhombohedral phase regions. This old picture has come under close scrutiny during the last eight years following the discovery of new monoclinic phases in the Cm and Cc space groups. This article presents a b...

Finite-temperature properties of Pb(Zr1-xTi(x))O3 alloys from first principles

A first-principles-derived approach is developed to study finite-temperature properties of Pb(Zr1-xTix)O3 (PZT) solid solutions near the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB). Structural and piezoelectric predictions are in excellent agreement with experimental data and direct first-principles results. A low-temperature monoclinic phase is confirmed to exist, and is demonstrated to act as a bridge ...
